Yggdrasil is the name of the tree of the universe myth. It is about an evergreen ash that rises from the middle of the Olympus of Nordic mythology, home to the Asi Gods (Æsir).
The name means “the terrible warhorse”, where Yggr, “terrible”, is one of the epithets of Odin (Óðinn).
Yggdrasil bears the load of the entire universe and the 9 worlds that comprise it. Its roots plunge into 3 different worlds: that of the Asi, that of the giants and that of the cold, and next to every root there is a well or a spring.
The most famous, Mímisbrunnr, is situated in the kingdom of giants and its waters bestow knowledge and wisdom.
